是聖經提及的天使名字，天主所指定的伊甸園守護者，也是聖經提到唯一具有天使長頭銜的天使。 
「米迦勒」這個名字是希伯來文，意思是「誰與神相似」。 《聖經》的記載顯示，與路西法的七日戰爭中，
米迦勒奮力維護神的統治權，對抗仇敵，的確名實相符。 《聖經》提到名叫米迦勒的天使的次數不多，
但每次提到祂的時候，祂都在積極行動。


米迦勒是天主的首席戰士，天界天使團的領導者，上帝身邊七大天使中最強大的天使。在基督教文化中，其事跡有：一夜之間殲滅進犯耶路撒冷的十五萬亞述大軍、阻止亞巴郎將獨子獻祭、在焚燒的荊棘中召喚梅瑟率領希伯來人出埃及、捕拿及囚禁千年古龍撒旦。米迦勒由於執行人類的創造和反對者撒旦戰鬥，其威能與大魔王並駕齊驅。在《死海文書》之《光之子與暗之子之戰》中，米迦勒以天國副君、光之君主的身份率領天使軍團，與暗之支配者伯列的暗之軍團決戰，大天使米迦勒在西方人們就叫他彌額爾。在基督教中，米迦勒是最著名的一位大天使。在聖經及次經中，米迦勒是個容貌英俊，英勇好戰但心懷慈悲的天使。
